The project was a collaborative effort between several organizations, including Hela Människan Värsta Götaland, NGO Vår Betong, NGO Reningsborg, and the Angered District Council.
The primary goal of the project was to prevent drug use and promote personal development among young people in the Roma community and the suburbs. In order to achieve this goal, the project team worked diligently over the course of three years to build trust and establish meaningful connections with these communities, as well as with politicians, officials, and other organizations and authorities.
One of the key actions taken within the framework of the project was to offer free training in MMA, boxing, and wrestling in exchange for participants committing to personal development goals.
This was seen as an effective way to engage young people and provide them with a positive outlet for their energy and ambition. In addition to the training programs, the team also produced, translated, and distributed unique drug education materials in three Roma dialects, in order to raise awareness and provide valuable information to the communities they were working with.
Another important aspect of the project was the creation of the 'Vår Betong' meeting place.
This space was designed to serve as a gathering place for roma and troubled youths, providing them with a safe and welcoming environment where they could participate in the training programs and connect with one another. Since its inception, the meeting place has seen 1,490 individual visits, averaging 186 people per month.
This is a clear indication of the success of the project, and the positive impact it has had on the communities it serves.
